COMPETITION RULES

Show off your skills at the Squirrel Weigh-In Competition for a chance to win trophies, cash prizes, and bragging rights. Hunters from across the U.S. are welcome. All hunting must comply with local, state, and federal laws for your hunting location.

Check-in & registration

February 27, 2027: doors open and check-in begins at 12:00 PM EST.
BBQ lunch from Zeigler’s is served from 12:00–2:30 PM.
Check-in closes promptly at 2:00 PM EST. No exceptions.
Silent auction, guest speaker, competition awards, door prizes, and raffle winners follow.
Individual competition: $30. Two-person team competition: $60. Each registration includes a BBQ lunch.
Registration deadline: February 26, 2027.

Hunting guidelines

Squirrels must be independently hunted on your own or permissible land.
All hunting must comply with local, state, and federal laws.
Squirrels must be hunted on the day of the event. No pre-hunted or frozen squirrels.

Equipment & squirrel types

Allowed: rimfire, pellet gun, or BB gun.
No shotguns. Squirrels with shotgun pellets will be disqualified.
No flying squirrels or fox squirrels.
Hunting dogs are allowed.

Weigh-in requirements

Individuals: present your best 12 squirrels.
Teams: each team member may harvest up to 12 squirrels, subject to applicable law, but the team must present only its best 12 squirrels as a group.
Check in between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM EST.

Prizes

Trophy and cash prize for the overall heaviest bag of 12 squirrels.
Trophy and cash prize for the overall largest grey squirrel by weight.
And, of course, bragging rights!

Additional information

Cleaning services will be provided at the event. Squirrels will be packaged and saved for future Squirrel Jam dishes such as squirrel dumplings or jambalaya. Squirrel tails will be donated.
